Lesson Forty Five

I suggest that he take some time off from work.

I suggest that he not take time off work.
Le sugiero que no deje de trabajar.

Uso:
a. En frases hechas:

God save the Queen!
¡Que Dios proteja la Reina!

Be that as it may...
De todos modos...

Come what may...
Pase lo que pase...

I strongly advise that you be here half an hour before the exam.

We urge that more attention be paid to the problem of traffic jams.

I suggest that you should be here half an hour before the exam.

c. En oraciones subordinadas con that después de una estructura It + be +adjetivo:

It is important that you practise English regularly.
Es importante que practique inglés con regularidad.

It is advisable that she attend all the lectures.

It is advisable that she should attend all the lectures.

a) may, might

He may not come. / Puede que no venga
He might still get here in time. / Puede que todavía llegue a tiempo.

b) should

It is essential that they should come / Es indispensable que vengan
It's important that he should talk to me when he gets here / Es importante que hable conmigo cuando llegue

It was suggested that the government not raise taxes at the end of the year.

2) El verbo ‘to be’ tiene formas especiales para el subjuntivo (I be; you be; we be, they be etc.)
The Prime Minister insisted that he be photographed with the President.
